In a landmark announcement that further cements the emirate’s position at the intersection of culture, innovation and global influence, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, has unveiled plans for the Museum of Digital Art (MODA), the Middle East’s first museum dedicated entirely to digital art and emerging technologies.

Set within the ambitious DIFC Zabeel District expansion, MODA represents far more than a new cultural institution. It is a statement of intent — one that reflects Dubai’s growing role as a global capital for creative industries and its belief that art and technology are no longer parallel disciplines, but increasingly intertwined forces shaping the modern world.

Announcing the project, Sheikha Latifa described the museum as a reflection of Dubai’s forward-looking cultural vision, emphasising the city’s conviction that creativity and innovation are fundamental pillars of sustainable development. “The Museum of Digital Art reflects Dubai’s long-term vision of culture as a catalyst for innovation, knowledge, and human connection. As the first institution of its kind in the region, it marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Dubai’s cultural ecosystem and reinforces our commitment to shaping a future where creativity and technology converge to expand the boundaries of artistic expression,” she said.

The timing feels particularly significant. Revealed alongside the 20th edition of Art Dubai, the announcement arrives at a moment when the emirate’s art scene has evolved from an emerging market into a serious global cultural destination. Designed by renowned architecture firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the five-storey museum has been conceived as a future-facing environment where visitors can expect a dynamic programme of permanent and temporary exhibitions alongside immersive installations, interactive experiences and educational spaces designed to challenge conventional ideas of what a museum can be. Rather than simply displaying art, MODA aims to create environments where audiences actively participate in artificial intelligence, virtual reality, generative design, digital sculpture, immersive projection mapping and emerging creative technologies.
