In 1848, in a modest workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Louis Brandt laid the foundations of a legend. His ambition was simple yet radical: to create the most precise movements possible. This pursuit of absolute accuracy would shape the future of watchmaking and ultimately give birth, in 1894, to a calibre so innovative that it became the name of the maison itself: OMEGA.
Since then, the brand has continuously redefined the benchmarks of precision, turning rigour and performance into its enduring signature. In 2015, true to this pioneering spirit, OMEGA introduced a milestone that would once again transform Swiss watchmaking, the Master Chronometer certification.
A quiet revolution in its own right, this certification does far more than guarantee precision, it elevates it to an art form. In collaboration with METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology, OMEGA developed a testing protocol of extraordinary rigour: ten days of examinations, six different positions, extreme temperature variations, and resistance to magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss, a challenge met by only a handful of manufactures worldwide.
The first watch to pass this threshold was the Globemaster in 2015. A decade later, OMEGA celebrates ten years of certified innovation and exceptional performance. Over this period, more than 2.5 million OMEGA timepieces have earned the Co-Axial Master Chronometer title, each one a symbol of controlled precision, mechanical beauty, and engineering elevated to near-scientific perfection.
Yet for OMEGA, excellence has never been a mere destination. Ten years after introducing the Master Chronometer standard, the brand naturally continues its pursuit through the creation of its new Precision Laboratory, where the next chapter is already being written. The first facility of its kind to unite both Chronometer and Master Chronometer certifications under one roof, this centre embodies a craft in constant evolution, where data, technology, and the art of horology converge to reinvent the very measurement of time.
