Since becoming the Hollywood figure for luxury with a cause, Leonardo DiCaprio has garnered attention for his investment Maison Telmont’s champagne projects, lending his name as a mark of approval for the sustainability efforts of the century-old family business. Founded in 1912, Telmont has had clear environmental ambitions for a decade. In 2017, the Maison’s vineyard obtained its first partial certification as an organic producer. Its conversion to organic “in the name of the earth” sets an example for the agricultural sector to protect local land biodiversity, and Telmont hopes to become 100% certified organic in 2025.

To get a sense of the scale of demands the producer is imposing on itself, Telmont’s ambition goes much further than the treatment of its vines. Among the Maison’s commitments are 2,500 insect hotel arbours to recreate the most profitable ecosystem for harvesting, electric vehicles on site, solar panels for the vineyard’s energy needs, and fully recyclable green glass bottles.

Moving beyond the vineyard into commerce, probably the industry’s biggest area for action with its constant influx of new accessories, is Telmont’s refusal to use any kind of promotional packaging so often used by champagne brands for their end-of-year events and other celebrations throughout the year. In the same spirit of limiting waste and pollution, no bottles are transported by air, and the Maison’s partner carriers must also meet this requirement.

Finally – and here’s where we all come in – Telmont’s consumers are kept better informed, with transparent information about the wine they are drinking. On every bottle of champagne, the traceability of its composition can be found, along with the elements in its production, shedding light on the entire process from start to finish. All this commitment to excellence can only attract renowned collaborations. The Rémy Cointreau group has become a majority shareholder to support the values of this authentic champagne, newly brought all the way to Hollywood by a devoted ambassador.
