Rolls-Royce Motor Cars unveils Phantom Arabesque, a one-of-one commission curated by Private Office Dubai and distinguished by the world’s first laser-engraved bonnet. Developed over five years, the newly patented technique transforms the bonnet into an intricate canvas inspired by traditional Mashrabiya latticework, a defining element of Middle Eastern architectural heritage. Rooted in regional craft, Mashrabiya is celebrated for its balance of beauty and function, providing privacy, regulating light and encouraging airflow in response to the climate. In Phantom Arabesque, Rolls-Royce reinterprets this enduring design language through contemporary bespoke craftsmanship, translating architectural geometry into automotive form.
The laser-engraved bonnet marks a first in the marque’s history. Drawing inspiration from the Italian sgraffito technique, the process involves painting the bonnet in a darker tone, sealing it beneath multiple layers of clear coat, then applying a lighter top layer. The Mashrabiya pattern is engraved to a depth of just 145–190 microns, revealing the darker colour beneath and creating a subtle, three-dimensional surface that shifts with the light. Each engraved section is hand-sanded to achieve a sculptural finish, embedding the pattern within the paint itself for exceptional refinement and durability.
Finished in a Bespoke two-tone of Diamond Black and Silver, the exterior is further elevated by a hand-painted short coachline featuring a Mashrabiya motif, an illuminated Pantheon Grille with Dark Chrome surround, an uplit Spirit of Ecstasy and 22-inch part-polished alloy wheels. The geometric language continues inside, where the Gallery spans the full width of the front fascia, showcasing an intricate marquetry artwork crafted from Blackwood and Black Bolivar wood. The interior is finished in serene Selby Grey and Black leathers, with Mashrabiya motifs embroidered on the headrests, Starlight Doors trimmed with Selby Grey piping, and illuminated treadplates bearing a cross-section of the bonnet engraving. Delivered to its commissioning client in the Middle East, Rolls-Royce Phantom Arabesque stands as a landmark expression of regional identity, where heritage, innovation and contemporary luxury converge in a singular motor car.
