Sold for $28 million, reportedly making it the most expensive car ever built, and purchased by Jay-Z according to our sources, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail made headlines even before being revealed to the public. Following the Sweptail in 2017, Rolls-Royce’s latest coachbuilding project showcases the extreme level of bespoke craftsmanship the brand is capable of.

Contemporary Design

Measuring nearly 5.8 meters in length, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail tells the story of Rolls-Royce in a romantic light, evoking a boat-like stern. A historic body style merges seamlessly with contemporary design. The front profile features a new treatment of the Pantheon grille and the brand’s iconic headlights, while at the rear, a massive “entertainment suite” is cleverly concealed. To meet the complex requirements of this rear entertainment suite, a unique electronic system with five electronic control units was necessary.

Without this system, it would have been impossible for the rear trunk lids to open at the proper 67-degree angle, incorporate a highly secure locking mechanism, and include a full climate control system to preserve any prepared dishes stored on board. Since the Boat Tail was designed with sunny weather in mind, measures had to be taken to ensure that heat would not affect the contents of the entertainment suite. To this end, two fans are installed in the lower section to dissipate heat—keeping food, beverages, and of course champagne perfectly chilled. Extravagance has never been so stylish. Could someone send us Jay-Z’s contact information so we can join him for a Boat Tail picnic?
